My Running Essentials

Even though running at it's core only takes a pair of shoes and a crazy dream---I love a good gadget/creature comforts! I've tested many different brands/items over the years and am consistently finding more that are awesome so I figured an update on my favorites was in order.

Before I go any further I am putting a disclaimer that this post does contain some affiliate links and if you decide to make a purchase I may receive a small commission at not cost to you. Never any pressure to use them, if you do decide to then thanks! :)

With the "business" stuff out of the way, let's lace up and get to work because these are a few of my favorite things! *Cue "The Sound of Music"*

My Running Essentials

Sunscreen:

Trader Joe's Broad Spectrum 30SPF

Most of the lotions I've tried either take a Brillo pad to get off or is so thin I have to debate if I even put any on. The Trader Joes lotion (For face and body) is the Goldie Locks of sunscreens, not too thin, not too thick, it's justttt right. I feel it gives me adequate coverage even when I have produced enough sweat to hydrate a small army. Bonus: I don't like having to use different lotions for different parts of my body so I like that it can go on my face too without making me break out.

Crop Top:

Rabbit

For someone who never has liked showing their stomach it's taken me a long time get the confidence to do it. I love the Rabbit Crops because they aren't skimpy. They have more coverage than a sports bra but less than a tank top. Especially for hot Florida summer and races they hold up to the miles without adding extra bulk. While I still have my days where I don't feel my best and want to cover up more, I love having these in my drawer waiting for me to own it!

Accessory Carrier:

Koala Clip

I am a firm believer that if I need to have a sports bra on while running, it has to earn its keep. Not just keeping the "goods" secure but being the chest equivalent of a Swiss Army knife. Enter in the Koala Clip. While my full review is HERE the base use is to hold your phone, key, credit card, whatever all while staying off your hips and securing snuggly into the back of your sports bra. My biggest plus is that it takes all the extra weight off my hips and centers the weight which doesn't throw off my form.

Fun Running Apparel:

Sarah Marie Design Studio

If you don't wear your obvious love for running on your sleeve (figurtivily or literally) how will anyone know? Don't worry you don't have to go get a running tattoo if you don't want to, you can just buy every tank top and coffee mug imaginable so no one ever forget you love running more than anything else. Funny sayings, colorful prints, and a piece for every occasion? Sign me up.

Glasses:

Tifosi Optics

I was always one that spent a good chunk of change on glasses. I can't wear polarized lenses and had a hard time finding quality pairs that had the polarization as option. New glasses weren't on my radar until I visited my local bike shop to get my stroller tire fixed (Didn't know that was even a thing until I had a jogging stroller) I of course picked the neon green because, why not? For under 30 dollars and countless colors and styles, you can't go wrong.

Defense Gear:

Defender Ring

We hear way too many horror stories of things happening on the run and while that problem isn't fixed by one product, I am all for having extra barriers in place to make runners feel safer. When I tested Defender Rings I was impressed with the ease and functionality they brought and like having a inconspicuous self defense product to deploy if I ever need. Headphones:

Shokz

I don't think I'll ever run with other headphones again. The open ear design allows you to listen to your favorite podcast/music without sacrificing safety. While nothing is full proof, I am for every trip and trick to feels after on the run. I can hear cars, pedestrians, and my own steps hitting the ground which allows me to be aware of my running form and my surroundings. It takes a second to get used to not having the buds in or fully over your ear but once you get the hang of it you will never go back!

Shoes:

Brooks

I was a diehard shoe lover for another brand until I was left heartbroken by some new updates. Enter in my rebound lover: Brooks. I had many athletes and friends rave about them but never gave them a fair shake. After one run with the Ghost 14's it was L-O-V-E. The toe box is roomy and the bounce is controlled without being overly cushy. Definitely looking forward to more miles with them and eventually breaking them out for race day!

When it comes down to it, running isn't about the gear, the colors, or any of the extras. However, just because you don't NEED them, doesn't mean you can't have fun and enjoy.
